Although I don't like the long drive to Baguio, I always consider it worthwhile. During my short stays in this city, I always stay at The Manor, Camp John Hay. It is 5-star hotel, and is said to be the best hotel in Baguio. It commands a higher price compared to all the hotels in this city, but I must say that it is worth every peso.
Upon entering the hotel, you will immediately feel that you will have an amazing stay.It looks like an enormous cabin. The gardens around it were very well manicured. The lobby certainly is as beautiful as anyone would expect. What a delight! The staff members are very nice and accommodating, and they speak great English. The check-in process was very swift. It was very apparent that they are highly trained.
The room does not disappoint, but it doesn't impress as much. Everything in the room is common, with no special item or focal point. However, the view from the room is amazing.
What disappoints me is that there are no amenities. They do not have a gym or a pool, as one would expect from other hotels. This was definitely a low point for me. How could a five star hotel not have the basic amenities?
I was also disappointed about the menu the hotel had to offer. With a beautiful al-fresco setting, the restaurant does not offer barbecue choices. Instead, they opted to serve french delicacies. I think that the food was great, although I feel that there would be a better and wider food choice to best suit the ambiance.
The hotel is inside Camp John Hay, so it is very easy to go around the area and sightsee.
This hotel is definitely one of the 'better' Philippine hotels. It is where I choose to stay in this city, perhaps until I find a hotel with a gym, pool and barbecue options.
