Currently, Palawan dubbed “The Last Frontier” is most famous for having the country’s New 7 Wonder of Nature bet, the Underground River, within its length. However, this small spot in the globe made up of more than 1,000 islands is also home to some of the best beaches in the country. One of the most prestigious, Honda Bay.

Honda Bay is one such beach with its fine sand, sparkling water and clear azure sky. A few rides from Palawan’s capital: Puerto Princesa, would take you to Sta. Lourdes where you could easily hire a banca to take you to the island of your choice. Several islets are available like Bat Island, Starfish Island andLu-li Island (from “lulubog-lilitaw” meaning disappearing and appearing island) which only appears during low tide. Be careful where to dock as some islands are privately owned!

Honda Bay is popular for its capability to provide snorkelers a beautiful view of colorful fishes and lively corals. It is also a favorite place for divers and picnickers. The white sand beaches meeting the clean waters provide the perfect view when munching on your food. Or, if you’re not in the mood to cook, restaurants are available in some of the islands like Meara Marina and Starfish. Overnight lodgings are also available but it is best to ask in advance before anything else!

Arreceffi Island is the site for the world famous Dos Palmas resort (two palms) so if you feel like going there, then it’s also just a boat ride away. For the adventurous, the number of islets could provide a good incentive for island hopping. Just make sure you a have a trusted and capable boatman with you to take you around!

Whether picnicking or snorkeling, it is best to pack a camera for this adventure as a Honda Bay trip definitely warrants a special place in the photo album!
