The island of Palawan, dubbed as “The Last Frontier” offer scores of sites and views for visitors. Not only does it provide different flavors of spots to appease different tastes but also offers easy access to all its wonders.

If you’re opting to views nature’s finest, the Underground River is the place to go. Held as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the longest navigable underground river in the world is home to different varieties of flora and fauna, some of those even endemic to the island. The site is also the country’s bet in the ongoing Seven Wonders of Nature, currently occupying the second spot.

 

If you’re a beach person, arrangements for El Nido are easily accessible. Or if the road trip isn’t much to your liking, there’s also Honda Bay. Either way, both locations are sure to appease the beach bunny in anyone.

If you want to commune with nature without that tiring road trip, Crocodile Park is a great choice. The site is located within Puerto Princesa so it would only take a few minutes of travel. And don’t be fooled by the name. Although Crocodile Park definitely houses crocodiles, it is also home to other wildlife animals.  

Have you ever watched “The Great Raid”? For a taste of history, visit the site where the struggle for freedom actually took place. A few steps away from the Puerto Princesa cathedral stands the reminder of the battle fought by both Filipinos and Americans. On the spot can be found the covered up tunnel utilized by the prisoners for escape.

Another site is the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm where prisoners are trained to craft different souvenirs as part of their livelihood project. The place is relatively peaceful without the presence of cells or bars. Take a dip in the “Balsahan” river also located in the site.
